After a successful season, the Elgin Lady Wildcats Softball team gathered with their coaches and families to acknowledge, recognize and enjoy fellowship and remembrance on Wednesday, May 15.

Head Coach Amanda Wolf-Schramm started the evening by welcoming all in attendance and then thanking her assistants: coaches Jackie Bowman, Shanika Randle and Madison Koehler. She said the staff went into the season very optimistic. There were some outstanding seniors to lead the team, plus many newcomers who could really play. As in the previous season, a number of serious injuries played a big factor in how the year played out, but Wolf-Schramm was very happy with how the team stayed resilient and emotionally tough throughout.

Wolf-Schramm stressed all the coaches strived to ensure these young ladies became the best versions of themselves, whether on the field or off. They want these players to grow mentally and emotionally as well as physically, to see themselves as strong women. She finished by saying character and grit, in many cases, will overcome raw talent. She was also extremely proud to announce that for the third year in a row, every single member of the Varsity Lady Cats were awarded Academic All-District. That, ladies and gentlemen, is phenomenal!

After the presentations, Wolf-Schramm honored retiring coach Jackie Bowman, relating how important he has been to the team and her personally over the past ten years. Bowman expressed his love for teaching and for coaching, but he felt it was time to continue in the next phase of his life.
