City of Bastrop hires new library director

Posted in:

The City of Bastrop is pleased to announce the hiring of Rebecca “Becca” Sexton as the new library director. Sexton has the experience, knowledge, and passion to successfully lead the Bastrop Public Library in serving our community.

“We have been waiting for just the right candidate to ensure that our Library remains relevant in the 21st century, and we believe that Becca Sexton fills those shoes,” said city manager Lynda Humble.

She believes in the importance of providing a welcoming user-friendly space, exceptional customer service and programs that are flexible and responsive to community needs. Sexton will step into her new role with the City of Bastrop on July 1. She has over ten years of experience in municipal libraries, most recently serving as a branch manager for Austin Public Library. Her background includes service in the cities of Cedar Park and Pflugerville.

Sexton obtained her Bachelor’s degree in English from Boston University and her Master’s degree in Library Science from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010.

She prides herself in remaining innovative for today and tomorrow, relying on her experience from past roles and her ability to look to and plan for the future. As she begins her new career in Bastrop, she looks forward to immersing herself into the community and engaging with all stakeholders regarding the needs of our citizens.

Sexton lives in Austin with her husband and their three cats, all of whom have book-themed names. She and her husband love a good meal, going to the movies, traveling, and live theater. Seeing Hamilton twice on Broadway was a true delight! She is, of course, an avid reader and loves to spend a weekend morning curled up with a cup of tea, a cat and a good book.
