The Wildcats played the Austin Achieve Academy Polar Bears on Friday, November 22. The starters were Tyrell Johnson (#23), Odie Henze (#11), Bo Gary (#4), Timothy Upton (#12) and Savion Gate-wood (#24). The fans came ready to support and the Wildcats gave them lots of opportunities to jump to their feet! The Wildcats were in the lead from the minute they hit the court and stayed ahead throughout the game.

The Wildcats started the second quarter ahead 10-4, and when Gary passed to Upton, the fans jumped to their feet because they knew what was coming. Upton drove the ball to the basket and posterized the Austin Achieve defender, reminding me of his dad, Tim Upton, serving defenders back in our high school days.

In the third quarter, Gary and Johnson hit three-pointers, and Elgin continued the effort in the fourth with help from Gatewood’s free throws to win 51-35, giving Elgin a 2-1 overall record.

The Elgin Wildcats will meet the Belton Broncos and Eastside Memorial Panthers this week in non-conference play. They will play their first district game on January 3 in Manor against the Mustangs.
