State ranked Hutto (29-3) came to town on Tuesday, February 4, and completely dominated our hometown Wildcats 99-48. The twelfth-ranked 5A team in Texas employed an absolutely swarming defense to easily coast to victory.

With no real height advantage to speak of, the Hippos played a really aggressive, in your face, fight you for every pass type of full court pressure that Elgin, along with most other teams, just could not handle. From the very first pass inbound, Hutto made it extremely difficult for the Wildcat ball handlers to even dribble, much less pass up the court. The Hippos scored countless easy points off of stolen Wildcat passes in their end of the court because of the relentless pressure.

The 'Cats scored only 11, 16, eight and 13 points in the four periods respectively to give an indication of how they had to fight to get the ball to their end to shoot. Halftime had Hutto leading 54-27, and the game ended 99-48 Hutto to keep their undefeated district record intact.

The Wildcats leading scorers were Savion Gatewood with 13 points and Bo Gary with 11 points.

On Friday evening, Elgin travelled to East View to take on the Patriots. In a heartbreaker, and ending any Wildcat chance for the last district playoff spot, East View came away a winner 66-65.

The 'Cats (11-18) took on the Bastrop Bears at home Tuesday evening. Then in the final game of the season, Georgetown will pay Elgin a visit on Tuesday, February 18. Varsity games start at 7 p.m., while freshman and junior varsity games start at 5:30.
