Brenham is a 65 mile trip from Elgin. It probably seemed a bit longer coming home. The Cubs showed they are playoff ready by overwhelming Elgin (1-6) on Friday evening, November 13.
This is the first game of the year where these young men were not in contention in the last few minutes of the contest. Brenham led 14-0 after one quarter and had a commanding 43-0 lead as they headed into halftime.
The third period saw the Cubs score two more touchdowns and lead 59-0 after three quarters. In quarter 4, the 'Cats saved being shut out when Lyndon Rangel took a handoff, went around left end and fought his way for a six-yard touchdown. Paden Maass was good on the point after kick, and that was all the scoring for the Wildcats, final score 59-7.
Brenham showed true offensive balance as they rushed for just over 200 yards and passed for 200 as well. They scored five rushing touchdowns, a punt return touchdown and two scores through the air.
The 'Cats were held to 89 yards rushing and 123 yards passing.
Elgin will put this game behind them and hope to finish the season strong with a win Friday evening, November 20, at 7 p.m. when they host the Bastrop Bears (3-5).
Each team in district has one game remaining, and the top four positions move on to the playoffs.
