Band puts in long hours for Aladdin-themed show

After working at schools in Gonzales and Hays counties, Armando Martinez began in Elgin in 2012 as the assistant band director before being promoted to band director three years ago. Martinez has two assistant directors to help him: Alyson Keller and Christopher Monte-mayor. Many don’t realize that being in the band in high school requires a tremendous commitment to the team. There are approximately 90 young musicians who have been practicing, many times in the heat of the summer, since July 29.
