As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, the Elgin Chamber of Commerce can be thankful for many reasons. First is our thriving and active membership. We remain the best investment any business, organization or individual can make for connecting to a community network. The Elgin community is our focus, encouraging relationships, and supporting businesses.
Secondly, we are thankful for the longevity and commitment of this organization. For over 85 years the Elgin Chamber of Commerce has been dedicated to Elgin. We strive to be leaders in advocacy and promotion for our members and welcoming visitors to the community.
Thirdly, I am very thankful for the Chamber Board of Directors. These individuals give of their time to serve our organization. I encourage anyone interested in serving on the Board or volunteering on any of our committees to contact our office. It is a great time to be involved with the Chamber. Not only is involvement at an all-time high, but so are sponsorships, new ideas and activities.
Fourth, we are grateful for our other partners. We are proud to work with the Elgin Main Street Board, Economic Development Corporation and the City of Elgin to sponsor many activities including this weekend’s Shop Small Saturday Event.
Saturday, November 30 is Shop Small Saturday. Now in its 10th year, Small Business Saturday continues to be an annual holiday shopping tradition — just one part of the larger Shop Small Movement that supports small businesses every day and everywhere. You might not realize it, but every time you buy a gift from the local business down the street, or support a local restaurant you’re shopping small and making a difference. In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community. So when you Shop Small on Small Business Saturday—and all year long—it can help add up to a big impact.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend and Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Elgin Chamber of Commerce!
