There is a growing consensus among Republicans in Texas that the time for action on climate change is now. Last March, Texas conservative congressman Dan Crenshaw from Houston called on conservatives to “own the climate change issue.” To be sure, conservatism is rooted in the idea of conserving: conserving funds to ensure we have a fiscally-sound economy, conserving traditions and history to learn from the lessons of the past, and conserving the earth by being good stewards of the environment. Crenshaw is aiming to lead the way on climate change by supporting carbon capture, which is a nice first step.
