Marc Kevin Holm, 61, of Lockhart, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 7, 2019. Marc was born, on February 16, 1958, in Fort Ord, California, the fifth of nine children to Charles LaWayne Holmes, Sr. and An Nita May Hall Holmes. Having been raised in a Military family, Marc moved from California to Texas, where he graduated from Killeen High School. After graduating, he moved back to California, where he developed a business as a curator of antiquities and fine arts. While living in California, he became involved with Youth With A Mission Organization. While volunteering with “YWAM,” he did extensive traveling in Europe. In the early 90’s Marc left California and moved to Austin, Texas, where he discovered a passion for artesian textiles; from that passion, he founded Architectural Décor with his siblings.

At the turn of the century, Marc and his family moved the business to Main Street in Elgin, Texas. While working in Elgin, he became involved in the Elgin’s Historical Society. Serving on the Historical Society’s Board led to his initiative to run for Mayor. Marc served honorably as Elgin’s Mayor from 2008 until 2016. During his time in office, he was instrumental in bringing an Austin Community College Campus to Elgin, revitalizing Historical Main Street, and consistently sought to improve our little town while preserving it’s historical charm.

Marc loved to entertain and bring people together. Marc celebrated diversity through, education, art, music and culture.

Marc is preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Randal “Gee” Holmes. Marc leaves to cherish his memory his seven siblings, Teresa Holmes and husband Simon, May An Nita and husband Raymond Hartley, Tina and husband Randolph Schwab, Tootie and husband Curtis Johnson, Marianne Holmes, Charlie Holmes, and Melissa Priddle; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Elgin Funeral Home on Sunday, December 15th at 6:00 PM to Celebrate Marc’s Life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary Christian Burleson Foundation or the Bastrop County Animal Shelter.

Arrangements and care are entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home.
