Janie Marie Carter Scott went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 13, 2022.

She was born in Taylor, TX, on June 13, 1940, to Robert Lee Carter Jr. and Hettie Marie Caffey Carter. She lived in Taylor until the age of four. Her dad was transferred to Elgin to be the local representative for the Texas Power and Light Company. Janie Marie’s grandparents, Mr. Robert Lee Carter Sr. and Janie Owens Carter as well as Mr. Charlie B. Caffey and Francis Caffey, lived in Elgin at this time.

Janie Marie started the first grade in 1946 at the Old Red Brick School House on Avenue C. Janie Marie graduated from Elgin High School in 1958 with a group of wonderful people. She attended Nixon-Clay Busness College in Austin and received an associate degree in business.

Janie Marie married Wilford Doyle Scott and made their home in Elgin. To this couple were born five wonderful children. Sandra Jane Scott Lake, married to Paul Lake, lives in Denton, Texas. Wilford Tracy Scott lives in Elgin. Suzette Elizabeth Scott Roberts, married to Scott Roberts, lives in Pflugerville. One granddaughter, Stephanie Roberts Camp, married to Brian Camp, lives in Leander with great-granddaughter twins, Addison Elizabeth and Briley Ann Camp, Samantha Autumn Scott Ballard, married to Cecil Ballard, lives in Manor, and Shellsea Spring Scott Ruden, married to Brian Ruden, lives in Taylor.

Besides being a good mother, wife, and civil servant, Janie Marie retired after 33 years with the Internal Revenue Service. After retirement, Janie Marie worked for the Department of Public Safety part-time from 2001 to 2016.

As a hobby, with much enjoyment, Janie Marie would crochet blanket sets with hats and booties for babies. She donated over 180 sets to Seton Hospital’s Premature Baby Unit. She also crocheted sets for her co-workers and friends.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren; one wonderful brother, Robert Lee Carter III and wife, Laura; nephew, Jeffrey Carter and wife, Gena, and family; niece, Lori Carter Karl and family; and great-nephew, B.K. Hardy.

Janie Marie asks that we all remember to feed the birds and squirrels. Also, enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and love the oceans and seas.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
