Annie Laura Sneed, 85, of Austin, passed into the Heavenly realm of our Lord Jesus Christ, Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Annie was born the second of eight children and the first daughter to Vernon Sneed, Sr. and Corine Campbell Sneed Maxwell Sept. 7, 1937, in Lorena.

She grew up and attended school in Lorena, then moved to Austin where she raised her family.

She was employed as a cook at Commodore Perry Hotel in the early 60s, as well as the Driskill and Sheraton Crest Hotels, before retiring in May of 1999 from the Austin Independent School District at Pearce Middle School. In her retirement, she found joy taking care of Kaylah, Adanna and Jade. She was famous for her peach cobblers, cakes, biscuits and beans.

She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Brother Bill Jones at the Church of The New Testament, and was baptized under the Montopolis bridge in the Colorado River and was a faithful member until her health failed her.

She was preceded in death by both her parents; her son, Wayne Edward Sneed, Sr; her brothers, Warren, Thurman “John” Charles, Vernon, Jr. and Emanuel “Dee” Sneed; and her great-granddaughter, Raiana Loving.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her daughters, Anita and husband Sam Pamplin of Austin and Annette Shackelford of Dallas; her sisters, Viola and husband Morris Searcy of Austin, Charlene and husband Leroy Simon of Seguin, and Virginia Guyton of Dallas; one brother, Bobby Lewis Sneed, Sr. of Hutto; her daughter-in-law, Francis Sneed (Wayne Sr., deceased); her grandsons, Wayne Sneed, Jr. and wife Cherish of Manor and LaMont Pamplin of Austin; her granddaughters, LaTorya and husband Searcy Jacobs of Austin and Virginia Loving of Elgin; her great-granddaughters, Kaylah Jacobs of Austin, Robin, Raven, Robbie and Ravon Loving all of Elgin; three great-grandsons, Wayne “Third,” Derean and LaWayne “Les” Sneed all of Manor; her sisters-in-law, Jessie Sneed (Vernon, deceased) of Austin, Cheryl Sneed (Dee, deceased) of Dallas and Susie Sneed (John, deceased) of Waco; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

She will lie in state from 2 to 6 p.m., Friday, July 7, at Elgin Funeral Home. A celebration of Anita’s life will be conducted at Saturday, July 8 at 10a.m. at Greater Swenson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with the Reverends Tyree King and Donnie Dewberry presiding.

Interment will follow at the Cook-Walden Captial Parks Cemetery.
