Third drive-by shooting hits Elgin block

Houses and cars in one Elgin neighborhood have been left peppered with bullet holes following a series of drive-by shootings this month, police said.
The Elgin Police Department shared details July 25 on three separate mobile shootings targeting the 500 block of E. Alamo Street. Investigators stated they have reason to believe the incidents are related and are searching for answers.
While the first shooting saw damage inflicted on different houses and cars on the block, the subsequent incidents targeted a single location, according to Criminal Investigations Division Sgt. Nichole Brimhall.
“During the month of July, these three investigations appear to be isolated incidents,” Brimhall said. “However, the second two shootings appear to be slightly more organized, so that would be the reason for only a singular target.”
The initial incident saw officers respond to a disturbance call July 8, about 8:40 a.m. According to reports, the on scene investigation determined that unknown individuals had conduced a drive-by shooting, hitting multiple vehicles and homes.
Around 3 p.m. of the same day, another shooting hit a residence in the area, investigators said.
Two weeks later, officers again responded to a report of a drive-by shooting July 24, about 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located numerous shell casings in the roadway and noted several bullet holes in a home.
No individuals were harmed in any of the incidents, police said.
According to reports, investigations are still in the early stages and the department can’t determine if the shootings are gang related.
Investigators are actively looking into each incident and diligently working to identify and apprehend the suspects, the department added.
“We are asking the public and encouraging them to come forward with any information they may have regarding this incident,” Brimhall said.
