Storms and cloudy skies will usher in another back-and-forth week of shorts and light jacket weather, although residents shouldn't worry about any winter-like temperatures.

The National Weather Service predicts decent chances of local rain for the rest of the week. After temperatures reach a likely balmy 88 degrees Tuesday, April 4, the forecast also calls for almost a 30-degree difference in high temperatures on Friday, April 7. Gusty winds also increases the chance for grass fires in areas that remain dry.

"Critical fire weather conditions are possible over most of the area Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon (April 5)," said the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio Office. "Better chances for rain and storms could develop Thursday through Saturday with mostly cloudy skies Sunday."

Tuesday night includes a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly after 3 a.m. through dawn. NWS denotes Elgin and the northwestern edge of Bastrop County as having a slight risk for severe weather, while the rest of the county has a marginal risk.

"Strong to severe storms will be possible late tonight for the eastern Hill Country and I35 corridor," said NWS. "Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threat with a much smaller risk for an isolated tornado."

A 40% chance of rain will persist on Wednesday. Storms have an 80% chance of forming Thursday, April 6, which continues with a 70% chance Friday. A lingering 20% chance is forecast for Saturday, April 8, before sun starts to break through at the start of next week.

Meanwhile, temperatures are likely to stick around or below 70 degrees on Wednesday. Thursday's and Friday's highs are forecast near 60 degrees. The weekend should steadily get warmer before returning to the 80s on Monday, April 10.

Despite the jump in daytime temps, lows are expected to fluctuate only in the 50s and low 60s through the week.
