Historic community north of Elgin earns new marker

A group of local historians celebrated the dedication of a new historical marker for the historic Post Oak Island community with discussions of the area’s history on Saturday, May 14 at the Type Church.The new historical marker from the Texas Historical Commission sits at the entrance of the Type Cemetery at the church, next to another state historical marker explaining the story of the cemetery.Post Oak Island, located in southeastern Williamson County just north of Elgin, was one of the earliest settlements in the area, according to the new marker.
