One of eight teams competing, the ‘Cats took a travel squad of seven boys and three girls to run. This was the first meet of the season, and coaches Hector Garcia and Heather Clapper were eager to see how their team reacted to good competition and a new course.

The season couldn’t start soon enough for Elgin’s Volleyball coaches and players, so the excitement was reverberating all through the gym on Tuesday night, September 22nd. COVID has had a huge impact on the team’s ability to practice and even to play a game, so while this was Elgin’s first game, it was the fourth game for their opponent, Copperas Cove.

After weeks of not being able to gather, Elgin Wildcat athletes were able to begin practice last week for the fall sports season. Due to COVID-19, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) delayed the first day of practice for Conference 5A schools like Elgin High School until September 7. The Wildcat varsity football team plan to play a scrimmage against Navarro High School at Burger Stadium in Austin on September 25, then play their first real game at home against Marble Falls on October 5.
